Scattered for Service:  An Alternative Giving Opportunity

What is alternative giving?

Alternative Giving is a unique way of holiday giving.  The concept is relatively simple … make a monetary donation to an organization that you know about and believe in and ask that organization to send an acknowledgement card to your honorees … to the loved ones or work-mates on your Christmas list.  It’s a lovely way to acknowledge the people in your life that you want to honor without adding to Holiday Consumption Disease.  At the same time, the organization is the beneficiary of your generosity.  It’s a win-win-win situation.

What is different about Scattered for Service alternative giving?
  • Scattered provides the opportunity to give to any number of worthy organizations, in one-stop shopping
  • Members of our local community select the organizations in the catalog
  • We offer actual "items" to give from each organization
  • We provide you with a card personalized (calligraphied as requested) describing the organization, your gift item and your name.
  • You send the card directly to your honoree

What is the Scattered brochure?
The Scattered for Service brochure is the collection of organizations, chosen by congregation members.  The brochure describes the organizations, the outreach programs, how we can support them, and how we can get involved with the organization.  The finished product is not only a gift-guide but also a volunteer-guide, a prayer-guide and all-around inspirational-guide. For each organization – there are up-to three different gifts to give.  With this option in Scattered for Service, we can then often find items to give to our loved ones that are meaningful to them in their personal lives.

What is a "Scattered Card"?
Scattered for Service
When you make a donation to an organization through Scattered for Service, we provide you with an acknowledgement card to give to your loved one.    At Scattered, we have personalized gift cards.  Each card includes a description of the organization that you’ve chosen and then is calligraphied – by calligraphy volunteers in our congregation – with the specific item that you’ve chosen and your name.  You then send the cards directly to your honoree.

Does Scattered for Service offer any gifts to "wrap?"
Fair Trade Winds, a family-run business committed to helping alleviate global poverty and increase social responsibility through fair trade, will bring their handicrafts and fair trade foods to Fellowship Hall. The S.A.M. Plan: Support a Missionary is a cash/gift card ministry that raises funds to support our missionaries in full covenant relationship. Scattered for Service purchases goods, crafts and cash cards through these programs and makes them available to you in time for holiday gift giving.  While your cards are being prepared, shop the Fair Trade Craft Market supporting struggling artisans from around the world.
