PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) is an organization dedicated to offering "A Hand Up - Not a Hand Out" in order to break the cycle of homelessness by empowering homeless people with the tools for self-sufficiency by helping homeless people find work, save money, secure housing and empower their lives.
PATH, celebrating its 25th year in 2009, started its humble beginnings in a basement office of our church. Since then, we have remained active with PATH in many ways, including members serving on the Board of Directors, participating in the annual Imaginary Feast and the Mother's Day Hugs Campaign. We continue to be committed to the relationship with our commitment to serving breakfast monthly at the Regional Homeless Center downtown.
What is a PATH Breakfast? Once a month, usually on the last Saturday of the month, a group of volunteers head to the Regional Homeless Center downtown to serve a hot meal for the 100 residents of homeless men, women and families. Our offering is often the only hot breakfast they are served throughout the month.
The group meets at 7 AM and begins preparing a meal of bacon and eggs along with fresh fruit, donuts, toast, orange juice, milk and coffee. After serving the residents and then cleaning up, it's about 9 AM.
What is the Regional Homeless Center?
After we've served breakfast we have the opportunity to take a tour of the facility. Newcomers are encouraged to participate in the tour of this amazing facility. The "mall" at the Regional Homeless Center houses nearly two dozen social service agencies in one location. The RHC represents an effective approach to responding to the needs of the homeless through collaboration and coordination of community services. Who can participate in a PATH Breakfast?
Participating in the PATH Breakfast is for everyone! It is a multi-generational activity, from ages 5 - 95. There is a limit of about 10 on each Saturday ... or the kitchen gets a bit too crowded. The PATH Breakfast is a great activity for specific groups to go for team building or a group mission activity.
