BTW's (By the Way Groups)
Early Christianity was far from being an abstract belief; it was a whole way of life. The new way of living was obvious to those around Christians and to the Christians themselves, for they were following Jesus’ lifestyle, the way he had lived and taught. “The Way” became one of the names applied to the early Christian community(Acts 9:2).
Starting in 1739 John Wesley began uniting companies of people in this Way “having the form and seeking the power of godliness, united in order to pray together, receive a word of exhortation, and to watch over one another in love, that they may help each other grow.” The United Methodist Church sprang from this tradition.
BTW (By the Way) groups rediscover our roots and celebrate some of our earliest traditions. A BTW group is a band of 3 or 4 people who meet together once a week to discuss preselected questions related to faith, life, and growth. Groups meet at their convenience and at a place of their choosing (i.e. coffee shop, restaurant, home, park). Questions are sent out on Sundays via email, allowing BTWs one week to connect, to dialogue, and to report.
