Louisiana Mission Trip

Want to help others?  Would you like to give back to the community?  WUMC is planning another mission trip to serve in Gulfport, Mississippi, and assist with Hurricane Katrina recovery during Holy Week, 2012 (March 31 - April 7). Adults and youth aged 14 and above are welcome.  Particularly need are those with some construction skills, although all willing servants are encouraged to go.  Cut-off to sign-up for this trip is Thursday, March 1st.

For more information, please contact Bette Caldwell at Bette4dkg@aol.com.

Special Follow-Up Series

"Re:Form Traditions"
Sundays at 11:20 a.m. • following worship

Deeply explore the Methodist tradition with witty videos, engaging individual and group activities. To create re:form Traditions, the masterminds behind this amazing program assembled a dream team of Methodist theologians, pastors, and practitioners from across the country. Together, they provided historical accuracy, a theological framework, and translated it all into fun activities and language that speaks to us all.

One Great Hour of Sharing on March 18th

One Great Hour of Sharing enables the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to live out its mission to alleviate human suffering. UMCOR responds to natural or human-made disasters—those interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on its own. This offering underwrites the operational costs so that all donations received when disaster strikes can go to the need. Join your gifts with those of others across the whole United Methodist Church and make this vision a reality.

Lenten Meditation Class

This class will be offered each Thursday in Lent from 6 to 7 p.m., beginning February 23rd. The purpose of this class is to learn some effective techniques to enhance your personal meditation practice through group meditation. There are many physical, psychological and spiritual benefits including:

• heart rate slows
• blood pressure comes back to normal
• quiets the mind
• blood flow capacity increases
• immune system improves
• breathing quiets
• stress hormone level falls
• digestive tract returns to greater balance
• sleep more soundly

Come find out! Each class will include time for silent group meditation, at least one guided meditation and maybe a surprise.  For questions or to sign-up, please contact Gina Shaw at ginashaw@aol.com
